A visit from my future self

Have you ever been living life and looked up to suddenly realize you're right in the middle of living the life you dreamed of years ago?

Last night my heart overflowed with love, joy, and peace. My 6-year-old snuggled close and drifted off to sleep listening to Miracle by Celine Dion. It's a song I've sung to him since he was born. It's also a song I played for the babies in the infant room during naptime over 20 years ago when I worked at a daycare right after high school. Without warning, I was transported back in time to those days when I was dreaming of having my own family but not knowing how it would all turn out.

I wondered how I would have responded if I had received a visit from my future self back then. What would I have told that younger version of me?

Right away, the words came to me. "Relax. Enjoy life. You'll meet the love of your life at 35 and have the best boy ever. You're not going to mess anything up."

Then I wondered what would the future me come back and tell me now?

In my heart I heard, "Relax. Enjoy life. You're not going to mess anything up. Everything you're dreaming of now will come to pass, and it will be better than you can even imagine."

I took a deep breath and then allowed my breathing to match the sweet rhythm of my baby boy's. Today, I feel a sense of knowing that all is well. There's nothing I need to fix or rush or force to happen. It's all unfolding as it is meant to.
